Cream and Multicolor Assemblage Painting, Purvis Young

Mixed media work by American folk artist Purvis Young (1943-2010).  A spirited, colorful painting on assembled paper, masonite, and fabric.

A self-taught African American artist from Miami, Young built assemblages of humble found materials including masonite, cardboard, and carpeting scrap, and often depicted scenes of community gathering like celebrations and funeral processions.

His work is found in major collections including the American Folk Art Museum, the National Museum of African-American History and Culture, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
